10 Habits to Help You Win in 2019
It’s been few weeks already since 2019 started and before we know it, we will be in another New Year’s Eve and then another year. So, there is no time to waste. 2019 has to be a great year for me and you. But for that to happen, there are some habits we need to adopt… they will help us go far and have a great year as planned.
Below is the list of the habits I will be I think you should try to embrace to have the kind of year you will desire;
SET GOALS
This sounded pretty basic but you will be surprised to know a lot of people have just been living life; taking whatever it throws at them and at any time it chooses to do that. This is not good enough. You need to identify what you intend to achieve (your goals). And you want to wake up every single day to work on that. You can put it in your head or you can write it out and keep reminding yourself of it every day.
It’s just lame not to have a goal. You can have business goals, family goals, health goals, etc.
BE FOCUSED
Being able to stay focused on your goals is becoming harder in this digital age where the internet and social media has joined the television, radio and other forms of distraction.
But if you can manage to focus on your goals, you will be able to go a very long way in business and in life. Actually, you just have to find a way to make things work for you.
Personally, during August last year I decided to change a whole lot of things in my life. I moved to an area where I have no friend, ditched my television and turned my home to a workshop (office). I also decided to stop all forms of training that require my physical appearance… all that in order to avoid distractions and stay on my goals.
Focus actually means to concentrate one’s attention to a single project, a single business, a single study or a single woman/man… until you’re done with it. As an example; concentrating on a particular business until it becomes a real success or you’ve giving it your all and discovered it won’t work, so you have to move on to other business.
HAVE FAITH
I am not talking about religion, NO. I don’t even meddle in that affair. But you really have to believe in yourself and on your goals… that’s the only way to succeed.
Before the 2018 World Cup final match, Luka Modric (the current Fifa best player in the world and captain of the Croatian National team) said; “There are ups and downs, but whatever happens, you have to trust and believe in yourself”.
You have to actually believe in yourself too even when no one else does. That is how to win in 2019 and beyond.
HEALTHY EATING & STAYING FIT
“Your diet is a bank account. Good food choices are good investments” – Bethenny Frankel
The saying that Health is Wealth didn’t get popular for nothing. I love to think of food as the fuel a car engine runs on. No fuel, no movement. And bad fuel affects the engine as bad food affects the health. Most of the bad health conditions of today are somehow linked to bad diet. So, eat good food and on time.
As far as staying fit is concerned, you don’t really have to go register at a gym. There are apps with great home workout sessions. Just try to do more exercises and keep your body in shape. You owe that to your body.
INVEST IN YOURSELF
Those who are close to me know I don’t joke with learning. I invest so much on courses as well as books in order to get better in my business as well as in life. I will advise you try to do the same as it will help you go a long way. Readers are said to be leaders.
“Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary.” – Jim Rohn
USE A SCHEDULE
If you are into business, you need to create a system for your operations. You don’t just want to jump in and start doing everything you can. Often times, you will realize that you will get nothing done for a very long time that way… but using a kind of TODO list can help you become more efficient. I am personally not one of the fans of multitasking. In fact, some studies claimed that instead of helping you get a lot of things done quickly, multitasking will actually reduce your efficiency.
USE A JOURNAL
A journal can also be referred to as a dairy. It is used to record activities. In accounting, a Journal is used to record transactions. But you can also use it to record your business or other types of activities in order to keep track.
Documenting your daily activities will let you know where you are, how you are doing and how close you are to your goals. Reading your own journals can help motivate you even more than any motivational video or book. Try it and thank me later.
REWARD YOURSELF
One good way to keep yourself motivated is to reward yourself every time me you accomplish something important. I do this by setting a target and attaching a reward if I meet such target. This method is called Strategy of Treats and can be found in Better Thank Before (a book By Gretchen Rubin). Gretchen stated that the habit of giving ourselves treats can help boost our self-command and keep us energized. I cannot help but agree to this statement.
SAVE & INVEST
There is a saying among the Yorubas that you don’t eat with 10 fingers; whether you are a salary earner or self-employed, it is important to keep some of your proceeds for investment and savings.
I am not really a fan of saving my money in the bank or anywhere that it doesn’t grow but you want to make sure you create a kind of liquid funds for the raining days because this life is so unpredictable. But I will put more money into investments than into savings.
I will recommend reading the book titled ‘THE RICHEST MAN IN BABYLON’ for some guidance.
HELP OTHERS
“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.” ― John Holmes.
One thing I’ve seen many successful people do is helping others. If there is one way or the other in which you can provide help to someone, don’t pass the opportunity on because helping people actually have a way of uplifting you too. In addition to what the Holy Bible and the Al’Quran says, psychology also added that the act of giving also help improve our own morale; makes us feel good about ourselves. I will not advise you to bring discomfort upon yourself to please others. That’s not right. Always please yourself first please.
There you go guys.
